I will be the first to admit that I was not one of the better players when I first started playing the game of basketball 15 years ago. In fact, my middle school coach called "turnover king" because every time he put me in the game I would turn over the ball at least once. If I am completely honest, I will admit that this "turnover king" phrase stuck with me until my high school years. It was not until I heard the greatest player to play the game of basketball (Micheal Jordan) talk about the "flush mentality." In the video that I seen, he talked about flushing the mistakes you make, so that you can focus on the next play. This is something that a lot of young players need to learn is how to "flush" their mistakes. Once I learned how to develop this flush mentality, I became a very effective point guard and my shooting percentage grew exponentially over the years. I went from not shooting any threes due tot fear of being taken out from missing a shot, to making at least one three a game in high school. Then in college, I would go on to hit 8 threes in one game vs Los Medanos college concluding with my career high 30 points.
The reason why I write this, is to encourage athletes to develop this mentality, so that they can learn to control their own destiny on the court. If you miss a jumper or turn over the ball a few times, it is ok. Just get the ball back the next play or focus on making your next jumpshot. High school and college do not leave much room for athletes to make mistakes. Therefore, I encourage all athletes to develop this mentality now, so that you won't have to suffer later. You are called to do great things in this world. So why let one mistake decipher your future? You are Chosen, sure we make mistakes, but we will not let one or two mistakes determine our future! Never forget that you are Chosen! Thanks so much reading :) Like, Share and comment please :) Coach Jermaine AKA "Chosen"
